About The Clinic

Tasman St Vet Centre has a philosophy of Preventative Health Care for your pet. This means we suggest "best care principles" that will keep your furry friend healthy over his/her entire life - rather than just try and fix him when s/he is sick.

In turn, you will find a longer living, happier pet, who may not need stressful or urgent treatment later in life, because you have taken care earlier. (An example may be helping you keep your cat at an ideal weight to avoid daily insulin injections later in life when s/he has developed diabetes.)
These principles are simple cost effective choices for the management of your pets life. And who doesn't want a happy, long living pet?
While your pets long term health is our primary focus, unfortunately unforeseen treatments are necessary from time to time. At our practice we have a surgery, hospital and X-Ray facilities to deal with emergencies and acute treatments.
We also understand that sometimes cost plays a part in what sort of treatment can be offered. Our policy is to suggest several treatment options, rather than just pushing the most expensive one. We like to arm our clients with as much information as possible so they make well informed decisions.
An additional feature of our services is our cattery- one of Wellington's best-complete with an outdoor garden with real trees, real flowers and real sunlight! The only one of its kind in Wellington city. Each cat has his/her own apartment and siblings can have conjoined cages.
We also provide holistic services for those that require them. Dr Viv Harris, president of the NZVA Holistic Special Branch, operates exclusively out of Tasman St for a limited number of hours each week. Viv uses Acupuncture, Bach Flower Remedies and Allergy Elimination Techniques to assist owners who want to try natural treatments for their pet.
Reiki for Pets is available at the clinic from Dharshan Naran, who is an Usui Reiki Master/Teacher. As well as treating human clients, Dharshan has been providing Reiki treatment for animals in Africa (including falcons and wild cats) and New Zealand (including SPCA-rescued companion animals).
